Week 26- Y2- The start of Little woman!
First day back from the Easter holidays and were working hard on little women already! I'm soooo excited to begin working on this project, but also very sad as it's my last term of college and then I'm off for uni :( This end of year show is a female heavy lead, whereas last year it was male, so It's nice that I have more of a chance to get a role this year. We split the class today. The boys went with Tom Guest and learnt about masculinity in the theatre world, and us girls stayed with Kelly. We talked a lot about the history of the time it was set in, and that it's really important we understand it. One of the biggest things is that it was set in the civil war. Which is why their dad is away, fighting in it. One thing that I also found out which I found interesting was that the reason that they were poor, was because their dad spent all their money on a school that he opened which was for boys and girls. In this time period, Girls didn't get much opportunities and creativity for girls was VERY limited, which is why all the sisters have a struggle. Of course you can tell that they got it from their dad and mum. We got into groups and wrote down all the facts that we know about the script so far
By the end of the lesson we found out that for our audition we have to find our own monologue from the script, and that we also have to write one as the character that we are going for. I think that I'm going to really struggle with this, but Kelly said that she wants to see who understands the characters the most. It's a good way to see who has done their research. My goal before the audition is to do as much research as I can. I want to see the older films, read the book, research the real writer and her real life, and of course finish reading our script.

Today we spent a lot of our time in the LRC. I finished reading the rest of the script. Afterwards I decided that Amy March is still the character I'd like to go for, and Beth in second. I would also love to go for Meg, but I don't think I fit her at all. I tried to find a monologue as Amy from the script to use for my audition, but I couldn't find one. Amy doesn't have any monologues throughout the whole script which is kind of annoyinggg. What we have to do is to get a duologue and turn into into a monologue, but I'm pretty sure that Kelly said that there was only one scene where we can do that, and that's when she is younger. It did put me slightly off her a bit. What I'm going to do is put a lot of effort in my written monologue. My idea so far is to write it as if Amy is talking to Aunt March about her love for painting, and that she wants it to be more than just for fun or about not wanting to marry just for money. I find it difficult to get started but hopefully it'll turn out good.
Later on, the film and TV students told us some of their ideas for their end of year films. So far I'm interested in Tamara's and Alex's and then Robert's too.

It was super fun today, we got to work on american accents! The first thing we did was put ourselves into three groups, depending on how confident you are with the american accent. There was confident, then middle (As in can sometimes do it) and then absolutely not. I put myself in the middle because I can't do an American accent without sounding like Dorothy now! but overall I can still do it, what I did today was also work on my tone and pitch which helped me to sound a lot less like Dorothy. We then got into groups, mixing our abilities. We had two from each so that we can all help each other. I realised that I can do an american accents, I just need more confidence in myself. We started off with some tongue twisters. I think that I'm overall quite good with them, if I go slowly anyways. That's the problem with them, people try to do them very fast which is what muddles them up even more. My team lost with that one :( I'm saying that it's because we had more in our group so we all said it at different pastes and it sounded cluttered..... anyway after that we all got given a sheet of paper, they all had a different letter on, and it would help describe how to say them in words. My group got the letter T. We worked on them in our group then we all taught the class what we had learned. We learnt that the letter T sounds something like the letter D and R when it's between vowel sounds, and the letter I. When it's at the end of a sentence or word then you should pronounce the T. When we shared this information it really helped the class! We made them say some words like: Water, Computer, Matter and "Cut it out". Other groups taught us how to pronounce the letter R. For this letter you just have to know where to put your tongue, it should be in the middle. R's are always pronounced in America! We also learnt the letter D. It's like the letter T it can also be flapped. So ladder would be pronounced like 'Letter', and pudding would be pronounced as 'Puttin', then wedding would be 'Wettin'. In America there is a 'Schwa' sound, which is found in nearly every word. Examples would be:
-Away- Uh-way
-Enemy- e-nuh-my
-Animal- a-nuh-muhl
-Doctor- doc-tuhr
-Lemon- le-muhn
-America- Uh-mer-i-kuh
And then lastly the letter J. This can actually give information about a persons accent. After working on this we did the tongue twisters again but in the american accent instead. It was great because a lot of people improved so much and got a lot more confidence. We all got told to do the group thing again to see where we are on the spectrum and nearly everyone went up one. No one was saying that they absolutely Can't do it which is great!

We took a look at the updated version of 'The last resort' today. We all got in groups and looked at all the new characters. The first thing we looked at were the Donkey's. We got given a scene and we all had to do our own interpretation of it. There are three donkey's, and they are very 'lady', if that makes sense. I don't think my group really took on the donkey side of them, after watching everyone else's. It was a great laugh. Next were the Seagulls. We had to regroup. Since I didn't do very well as a donkey, I put loads of effort for the Seagulls. It was hilarious and I loved doing it. Here's a video:
We were also introduced to the surfer dudes, Mr Punch, and the bouncers. I've put my name down for the Seagulls for the audition.
