week 7 - Y2- part 1: Ghost-Light Tour
It's show day! I think it's the first time I've done a show on the weekend, but i liked it! it was such a good day. Today I am playing a house of wax character, or so I thought. One of my teachers told us that they needed two house of wax characters to also be cleaners so I volunteered along with my friend Millie T who plays my Olive. We just wore our house of wax costume since we didn't know about this but it turned out great as I brought in black boots, black leggings and a turtle neck black long sleeved top. Our teacher gave us an apron to put on top of that so it looked great! We were no longer a house of wax character as the cleaners are in for the whole show! I was so happy that it came out this way as I got a lot more acting time, it also allowed me to interact with the audience A LOT more. My teacher Kelly and Josh the one helping us from the Globe gave the main characters a show around the Globe telling them which way to go and when they need to take the audience there. I got shown where the cleaners need to be. Whilst that was happening a lot of us got our makeup done. I loved my makeup so much for the cleaners, it was super fun!
Here is a photo of it:
As you can see it was kinda normal it just had big eye bags, dirt all over the face and some mascara running down under the eyes.
There were no lines for the cleaners, we just had to walk around the audience in a very automobile way, to make the atmosphere eerie, and to make the audience feel unsure. Me and Millie found ways to go about so that we can just pop up in the room they were about to walk into, so that they got freaked out about the way we were suddenly appearing. We had two broomsticks as props and we just moved very slowly and robotic/ Zombie like with them repeating the same movement. The first show was at around 2:30. It was a quite audience. Since I don't have any lines today I just walked around in a spooky manner and gave the audience the biggest death stares ever. It was actually really fun especially since I'm the nice one. It definitely worked as when I got close, some audience members hid behind the person they came with. I even heard someone whisper about the fact that we were creeping them out. This just made me stare at her for longer to get her more spooked. It was great.
Now for the second show. This was a more lively audience we could say. We were bound to get at least one audience member that had a big mouth. I did the same thing in this show but with more confidence, this just means I got super close. There was a girl who came with her family, I was just doing what I needed to do, I appeared in front of her and was sweeping near her feet getting close to her face, I guess she didn't like that because she went up to my face and said "You got some bags under your eyes babe, think you need more sleep". It was actually quite funny because she was around my age and was that immature. This just gave me more to play with so I guess I won. My response was to follow her as much as I could and I began sweeping her feet. Later on her dad then made a little comment saying "You missed a spot". That was sooooo..... not funny. Oh well he tried his best, bless him. I just did the same thing to him as I did with his daughter. The whole show I showed up behind them and mad them jump. Later on the man who made the comment turned out to be super rude and childish. He began being horrible to one of the usherettes. The usherettes job is to shush people when they talk and of course he was talking so they shushed him. He didn't take that very well. He started telling her that he was going to set some people her age on her to beat her up. So she pinned him against the wall and said that if he doesn't shut up and listen he'll be kicked out. He then shut up and the karma hit as he fell down the stairs and when he got back up he fell again. Love it when people get put in their place. Keira (The usherette) stayed completely in character and it was amazing as it also helped any interference with the show from happening. Overall it was such a great show and everyone did an amazing job. It's hard as everyone is spread about the Globe so I couldn't really see anyone else's performance but the audience left the building scared so... The hardest part of today was not smiling when the audience waved at us, they were just trying to be nice but it was honestly so hard not to wave back, I felt so rude not smiling back at least, instead I just gave them a bigger death stare :(

Happy Halloween!!! It's my turn to be Ivy today! as much as I loved being a cleaner yesterday, I can't wait to be Ivy today. It was a lot calmer today as everyone knew what they were doing since we all got shown it yesterday. I ran through my lines quite a lot since I was nervous. We ended up doing three shows today instead of two, as Toms course (HE acting course) came to watch. This did make us a little more rushed, so I got my makeup done quite early. There wasn't enough time to do any makeup on my neck etc. My costume for Ivy, was a short black dress that looks a tad vintage, black sheer tights, pointed black heels and a fur coat with some jewellery. There was also a bit added for Ivy. It's hard to explain so I'll put a photo here:
There was a room with a small window downstairs in the bottom part of the theatre. Since Ivy is a silent movie star, I pretended to be stuck in that room. I just banged on the window shouting and begging for help whilst crying (Silently). It was actually really tiring as I had to do it for about 25-30 mins straight. It was fun though as I made people jump. As soon as the audience left I had to run to the elevator without them seeing and pray to god that I'd get into the makeup room before the audience. Luckily I did in all three shows. I think that that was probably the most difficult thing to do. When I was in the makeup room Olive was already there waiting for me. My scene is with Olive, Jack and Bruno. I did the same thing in all three shows really since I don't interact with the audience with this character. One thing I am proud of was that the actor of Jack forgot a line so I improvised. I say 'Oh Olive dear, don't start this again', and then jack is supposed to say something a long the lines of, 'I think you are beautiful miss Thomas', but he forgot in the last two shows so I improvised with 'I'm sure jack thinks you're beautiful', which helped turn it back to the right direction! We hid a phone behind the radio and took a video of our performance!
One thing I would say that I'd like to improve on was our paste. I feel as if we could have slowed down a little. Otherwise from that I'm quite proud.
