Week Twenty-Nine

Today we began our first day of rehearsals! We started with cast two today as some people for cast one are missing. I'm kid three and a police officer in this cast. We got to about page 34, meaning we got to the part where Mickey and Eddie become blood brothers. The scenes are already beginning to come together. My first scene that I come in was for kid three. Kid three only has one line, which is, "Hey mother, I'm starvin, we've got nothing in". This makes it easy for the lines. We've planned that all the children going on the stage at the same time complaining and annoying Mrs Johnston. We're all complaining about how there is no food , and no milk for the baby. Too make it look more realistic and like were siblings, we have to argue and push each other out the way. There is a lot that we still need to work on, but its getting there. Another scene that I was in was just before the 'Our Sammy monologue'. The children are playing cowboys and Indians, so I'm just one of the children for that. We have to run around and act like were on teams, until Sammy steals Mickeys air gun and then that's when Mickey complains to Mrs Johnston about Sammy. We still have to go through the whole of the show and add things on but Its looking good.

We started today off by creating a mind map as a group for what we can do in the beginning scene, these are them:

I feel like today went so well and that it's really looking good. It was only us first years in except from one second year. We practised the first scene when the Marilyn Monroe song is sang. It started with the narrator talking to the audience about the unfortunate events of the two twins. Whilst the narrator is talking the two brothers are laying down on the floor dead. Linda over Mickey and Mrs Lyons over Eddie. Then Mrs Johnston in the middle back of the stage, And then a few people stood around. Everyone ends up leaving and and Mrs Johnston comes to the front of the stage and begins singing the Marilyn song. We choreographed most of it. The parts I go in is when  Mrs Johnston says, "Then we had a do". The ensemble go on begin dancing and singing, "We went dancing". Afterwards we go off the stage. Here is a video of what we did:

Today we got into groups of five. I got into a group with my friends, Sienna, Kadie, Emie and Megan. We had to pick a superstition and act it out in front of everyone. We could be as serious and as silly as we wanted. It was so fun. Me and my group picked the devils number, '666'. What we did was we made Emie say her phone number out loud and it had the numbers '666' in it, the rest of us then backed away and she then says it again and it made us crazy. We then started praying on the floor like crazy people. We made it a bit comedic by saying she should look it up on Wikipedia. She then read out loud what could happen which again made us go crazy. We then began 'cleansing' her so she got fed up and walked away, I then made a little blood brothers reference by saying, "Just so you know, the devils got your number". After we saw everyone's, we began rehearsing blood brothers. Because i'm an ensemble I had to go to another room with the other ensembles, too practice our scenes. We practised the kids game-Indians and Cowboys, Then the Marilyn Monroe song, and then the job line one. Rehearsals went well, One thing I still need to improve on is the kid scene one, it just looks a little bland. Some people just stand there and say nothing, so its too silent. I try and make it as if we are mortal enemies so i'm shouting. After class ended, I stayed back to do some other rehearsals for a show we are doing in the Willy Russel show-case called ,'The Beatles'. I got the role of Kid in this show. I know all my lines so that really helped with everything. The first thing we did was go through my character. My director wanted me to play it as an 8 year old, but I thought something around 12 to 13 would look better. We tried to do it as 8, but then realised that Kid is a little more on the sassy and stubborn side so changed their age to 12. Kids characterisations are: nosy, stubborn, sassy and irritating. I feel as if this character will make the audience laugh because of how annoying they are to Bert. Bert is the character I'll be playing with. Bert is a TV presenter who I'm really irritating. After going through working with my character, we began rehearsing with Bert. My director said that there isn't anything to change with how I present my lines and how I walk/ move around the stage. There were just a few things to work with Bert so I had to stay a while to help out. It's really fun playing Kid, I get to learn how to act as someone who is annoying and out going.

Singing. Today we had to sing. Let's just say I'm not the greatest singer. Today was still fun though! We went through two beetle songs called, 'Yesterday' and 'I want to hold you'r hand'. I really enjoyed singing both and I might even say I now know some of the vocal ranges for these songs. We then sang three songs from Blood Brothers called, 'Tell me it's not true', 'Kids game' and I forgot what the other one was called, maybe 'Moving away'. My favourite is 'Kids game', it's super fun and it's not proper singing. Tell me it's not true is super hard. some parts are proper singing, which I cannot do. After a few more practises it'll sound a lot better.
