Week Twenty-Six

We did some accent work today. This time we were practising our diction and doing a posh British accent.  These sentences that we had to say had a lot of 'T' that we had try to to pronounce. Some people find it really hard to pronounce/say the sound 'TH'. So this was quite hard for some people. I found this quite easy as I used to live down South so i have a 'posh' accent to my friends. Of course I still have to talk slowly otherwise ill mix all of my words up. I'm also sadly beginning to pick up the northern accent. There is absoluteness nothing wrong with it I just like my southern accent haha. We were told to choose what accent we all find easier, a lot of people said the posh accent which I also said. We then said if we need to use a posh accent or a Scouce accent for the role we want. I said Scouce as I want the role of Linda. We then also had to choose which accent we wish we could do for the show and I said Scouce again. My teacher Kelly said that its better if we choose the accent which we find harder as it shows that we challenge ourselves. I've learnt that we should always challenge ourselves. Ever since I have joint this course its really helped me to get out of my comfort zone and help me try new things. Thanks to that I now know I'm able to do thing s I thought I wouldn't be able to do. I know that if I go for Linda I'll be allowing myself to try new things and get out of my comfort zone even further. After working on accents we had to preform, 'Our Sammy' monologues. Everyone was really good and you could tell how much more confident people are and how much better peoples accent's have gotten, including mine. Of course I can still improve and I will by continuing to practice my Scouce accent and also keep trying to develop a more child like mannerism ( 7 year old, as Mickey, Eddie and Linda are 7 for some time in the show).  Here is a video of me doing the 'Our Sammy' monologue:

I will upload more videos of me doing a Scouce accent so that I can document my improvement.

The first thing we did today was go in the LRC to work on our presentation for the practitioners. Me and my friend Kadie have chosen to do Stella Andler. We had already done a lot of it on her computer, but she's not feeling to well so I had to restart it. Here is a video of what I have done so far.

I will finish it during the Easter holidays. We will have to present it on the Tuesday back from the holidays. After spending about an hour and a half on the presentation, we started rehearsing Remote as are show is this Thursday. It went pretty well but some people are still doping a few lines. Me and the yoga girls have made some moves up to try and be in sync.

Today we have been preparing for tomorrow's show at the York Theatre Royal. We have done a few run throughs of the show. We didn't change anything as the show is tomorrow and we believe that it looks really good!, At the end of the day we gathered all of our props all in one place ready to take with us to York!

Its show day! We are going to York! and performing Remote again! Today was an absolute blast. Me and my classmates all went to York to perform in the York Theatre Royal! Here are some video's just explaining what we did:

I couldn't record everything as sadly my phone ran out of storage but during the last video I uploaded I was trying to explain how a man called Nial came in and helped us with some warm up games. Some games were super complicated but they were all so fun. One game is too hard to explain but it really helps us with concentration and to focus and more than one thing. Another game also helps with concentration and listening, in this game we had to stand in a circle one person will clap their hands towards someone and say there name. They will then walk into that personas spot. The person whose name was said will have to do the exact same thing. After the workshop we had lunch/ dinner. During dinner me and my friends saw that the writer who created Remote commented on one of our posts saying 'Well done team!', which gave us so much hope and joy. After dinner everyone began getting ready. Some people got changed and some did makeup, hair, ect. I had just gotten my hair ready and did a friend's makeup. We then watched someone else's version of Remote. I overall really enjoyed watching it as it was so different to ours. The chorus lines were also played by the characters who have a name which was one of the most different things to ours. The chorus lines also never left the stage they kind of annotated what the named characters were doing. My favourite character that was played in their Remote was probably Skin and Desk as they were also the most different the characters were played. Skin in our version of Remote is more psychotic whereas their Skin was like a largely played chav. They all did super well and I'm so glad I had the opportunity to watch them. After we had watched their show we all went back to the changing room building and began getting ready. I got changed into my costume and then we went into the theatre and got the stage ready. We did the show! and it was amazing!

How the show went: The show went amazing and I'm super proud of everyone. We all tried our best and with that effort we ended up creating something that no one has seen before. We created a piece that had so much emotions and meaning to it. The ensemble helped to show the audience how much we all listen and react to one another. The way we presented this piece really showed how much thought and time we have also put into it. We couldn't have done it without the help of our teachers. There are so many things which I believe we did so well with this show, starting off with our characterisation. In today's performance you could see that we put a lot of thought into each and every individual character. Everyone had their own personality and we all portrayed that well during our performance. Adding a personality to the characters on stage is what I believe really helped to bring the show to life. It made it look more realistic and made it look like something of which you’d see in a park, which was our overall aim. Something I also believe went super well was the ability to create a bigger scene and add tension to it, and to make the audience realise that it's an important scene. The most important scenes were when Antler was telling Oil what's wrong, and what everything she thinks is wrong with the world, and the scene where Skin begins to get violent and starts to try and beat up Finn. We showed these scenes where important by bringing all the attention to certain points. For the scene where Antler is telling Oil what's wrong, all the characters who aren't involved in the park all limited our movement. This is so that none of the audience gets focused on anything else other than the people talking. For the scene where Skin gets violent, each and every character on stage had a huge reaction. This showed the audience that something big is coming up and that the scene had great importance. Another thing I believe we did really well was staying focused. During the whole show a lot of us had to stay on the stage for the whole time, and of course that means having to stay in character for the period of time. Some people had quite big characters like the young parents. The parents have quite a sassy and a gossip personality and they kept it through the whole show. I'm also proud of myself and the yoga girls for staying in character and also continuing to do yoga through most of the whole show until we didn't need to. I also believe that our projection was good the whole time, which is a massive improvement as it's a super important thing as to ensure the audience understands the show they must be able to hear what's going on. Another thing I also did well was understanding what I was saying and adding emotion to it. One line that I say is, “Size zero”, this is something that upsets my character so when I say it I had to sound upset, I also added movement to it such as holding my stomach. Another thing I say is, “And 8 year old with adventure in their blood”, This is something that excites my character so I had to say it in an excited manner. Something I believe I could have worked on to improve our performance even more was to work on better yoga poses. Me and my yoga friends tried to come up with a few moves to do in sink but I believe we could have done better. We could have put a little more time and effort at the end of a college day, to stay back as a group and work on it. Now that we have done the performance in the York theatre we have to wait to see if we have won, and get the chance to perform in the National theatre! During this time I can work on the things which I believe could make it look even better such as the moves.
