National Theatre connections- Remote Tasks
Task two- Its all about the design:
I have chosen marketing along with some of my friends. Marketing will help to advertise our show and will hopefully allow us to get new people interested and come to watch us. My group contains: Me, Sienna, Kadie, Morgan and Courtney. The first thing we did was create a group chat containing everyone including our teacher. This will allow us to communicate and be able to post thing flowingly. We have an Instagram page to help us advertise our course. On this page we will be able to post all the things we need to, to help us gain a larger group. Our first post to promote this show will be the poster for the national theatre connections. And then the post after that will be the poster for our show. In the captions of these post will be explaining what we are doing, and what the national theatre connections are.
Here are some things that we want to post for the next few weeks:
-Rehearsals photos + videos -Dress rehearsals
-Set updates -Meet the cast- Introducing who got who
-Ticket links -A 2 week countdown
-Cast pictures -Marketing team picture
-Posts of the York theatre and location -The costumes
-The travel -Interviews
-Reels -Q&A's
-Lives -Makeup room
-Day in the life -the connections show
Here are some hashtags to go along with some posts: #Srcremote, #Theatre, #Connections2022, #actors, #cast, #act, #acting, #show, #youngtheatre, #nationaltheatrecompany, #Yorktheatreroyal, #westend, #inittowinit, #working, #rehearsals, #learning, #love, #work.
One post has already been done on another Instagram page for Aptasr. On this post we showed our poster for Remote. in the caption we wrote about connections and what it is. We said how we are getting along with rehearsals. Hopefully on our next post we can show the national theatre connections poster and maybe write on the caption more about connections or kind of tease the audience with a little teaser.
We have now followed a lot of people from the APTA group. This got us from 34 followers to 150. Whenever we can we will try to follow more people as it allows our page to grow. The second thing we did was make some drafts. We then let our teacher decide whether to post them or not. One that she did post was some behind the scenes photos of our show. We then put in the caption how many days we have left before the show, we put the link for the tickets in and the did a lot of # to get us trending. We made a few other drafts that show us working on the show and another showing some photos of some self tapes for the show.
Task three- creating your characters world:
For this task I'm going to be making a video of my character making a video of her showing people how to meditate. She will also talk about crystals and how important meditation is. I've had to separate the video into four parts as I couldn't upload them together.
The video_
Something I would change about these is actually being more prepared. I knew what I wanted to say for this video but whenever I pressed record I'd just forget. Maybe for next time I'll even make a short script to help me out. I should have also learnt a bit more about crystals because I actually don't really know anything which just made it harder.
Task four- The national theatre:
-The national theatre's mission is to make a world-class theatre, for everyone. The national theatre empowers artists and craftspeople to make world-leading work, investing in talent and developing new productions with a range of theatre companies at the New York department
-The origins of the National Theatre can be traced back to the 1916 with the creation of the Shakespeare Hut, a 400-seat theatre staffed entirely by woman.
-The National Theatre was started by a man called Laurence Olivier
-This theatre has a capacity of 1127 seats, including 609 seats in the stalls and 519 seats in the circle.
-There are three theatres in the National Theatre. There is the Olivier Theatre, Lyttelton Theatre and the Dorfam Theatre.
-This Theatre is funded by the Arts council England and the NESTA
-The Theatre closed in 1984 after being declared structurally unsafe and was eventually demolished 1986 to make way for the construction of an expressway
-The theatre won five gongs: best play for One Man, Two Guvnors;best musical for London Road; best director for Mike Leigh's Grief; and best actor best designer for Frankenstein
-It cost £250,000 to rebuild the theatre in 1909.
-Thespis was the first actor to play in this theatre
-The oldest play that was preformed in this theatre was Persians
Task Five- your performance:
9th of March show:
Everyone was really nervous but we did it(2:30 show) It was way better than all of our rehearsals but I still felt that it hadn't gone that well. Everyone did a great job at acting, but I feel like there were many small things that made it go down a little more and if we improve those things it could look 10x better. The thing that went the worst was probably the bows. It felt like the most awkward thing ever. No one knew when they had to go on and bow as we never rehearsed it so it just looked super scruffy. This can easily be fixed by just going through it quickly later on. Tom the head of acting came to watch this show and told us how much we improved since he last saw us go through it and said how well we did which was super nice. One of our teachers had to go but she wrote down some notes for us, and our other teacher read them out to us. The main one was volume. Sometimes the audience couldn't hear what we were saying. Everyone knew that this is something we needed to improve on. The only feedback that I got given was that when I say a certain line the bullies begin to laugh and the audience cant hear what I say, so I should just give them some time to laugh then I'll say my line. Something that we got told that was amazing was that we had created an ensemble. Once we got given all the feedback we had a break for dinner. Then its our next show, the 7 O clock one. We went through the bows 2 times and then everyone knew what to do for it now. Everyone was a tad bit more nervous for this one since Tom was going to be watching. We did the show, and all I can say is that it was sooooo much better. Even though I was in the show I carefully listened and could tell that everyone thought about every thing they said and every action they took. I listened out to see if people took in the feedback and I'm pretty sure they did, including myself! I'm super proud for everyone, for how well they improved and how amazing they overall are! After the pref romance Tom congratulated us and talked to us about the show and asked us questions about what we found the hardest. We said learning the que lines, and he told us that everyone who has done this show said the same thing. He also asked us how we came up with the ideas of the characters who aren't named, and said how there really unique and he would never have came up with them. Before he left he congratulated us again. He was supper nice and supportive about it. In about a week time he is going to send a proper full feedback about the show to our teacher, and that will hopefully help us to improve the show and make it even better.
Understanding the show:
Connections Remote:
Characters in Remote:
-Antler: Antler is a very important character in this show. she portrays apathy, and tires to get people to notice all the problems in the world.
-Oil: Oil is someone who is kind off Antlers boyfriend. Hes a nice kid who tries to help Antler but doesn't really understand her problems.
-Crystal: Crystal is Antlers sister. In this show she finds a connection with someone. Crystal doesn't care about what Antler is talking about until the end.
-Blister: Blister is a bully. He thinks that he runs everything around him. Hes really horrible to everyone. Towards the end you see a slight change in him
-Skin: She may be Blisters cousin. She's even scarier than Blister, as she's horrible in a psychotic way. She's very violent.
-Finn: Finn also finds a very special connection in this show. She is part of Blisters group but only because she feels protected being in it. She's nothing like Blister, she's super kind.
-Desk: Desk is about a year younger than all the other characters. They're super outgoing and throughout the whole show they show sympathy and curiosity.
-Dashed lines: In the script there are dashed lines. These lines are describing the whole story of whats happening. Without these the story wouldn't make sense
What remote is about:
Remote is all about one thing. Apathy. This word is mentioned in the show a few times. Apathy means a lack of feeling or emotion. These feelings are portrayed in people towards the problems that are happening to the world, such as, climate change, recycling, flooding, earthquakes, and forests on fire etc.
Task 6: Evaluation of my work:
How the 7th of April show went: The show went amazing and I'm super proud of everyone. We all tried our best and with that effort we ended up creating something that no one has seen before. We created a piece that had so much emotions and meaning to it. The ensemble helped to show the audience how much we all listen and react to one another. The way we presented this piece really showed how much thought and time we have also put into it. We couldn't have done it without the help of our teachers. There are so many things which I believe we did so well with this show, starting off with our characterisation. In today's performance you could see that we put a lot of thought into each and every individual character. Everyone had their own personality and we all portrayed that well during our performance. Adding a personality to the characters on stage is what I believe really helped to bring the show to life. It made it look more realistic and made it look like something of which you’d see in a park, which was our overall aim. Something I also believe went super well was the ability to create a bigger scene and add tension to it, and to make the audience realise that it's an important scene. The most important scenes were when Antler was telling Oil what's wrong, and what everything she thinks is wrong with the world, and the scene where Skin begins to get violent and starts to try and beat up Finn. We showed these scenes where important by bringing all the attention to certain points. For the scene where Antler is telling Oil what's wrong, all the characters who aren't involved in the park all limited our movement. This is so that none of the audience gets focused on anything else other than the people talking. For the scene where Skin gets violent, each and every character on stage had a huge reaction. This showed the audience that something big is coming up and that the scene had great importance. Another thing I believe we did really well was staying focused. During the whole show a lot of us had to stay on the stage for the whole time, and of course that means having to stay in character for the period of time. Some people had quite big characters like the young parents. The parents have quite a sassy and a gossip personality and they kept it through the whole show. I'm also proud of myself and the yoga girls for staying in character and also continuing to do yoga through most of the whole show until we didn't need to. I also believe that our projection was good the whole time, which is a massive improvement as it's a super important thing as to ensure the audience understands the show they must be able to hear what's going on. Another thing I also did well was understanding what I was saying and adding emotion to it. One line that I say is, “Size zero”, this is something that upsets my character so when I say it I had to sound upset, I also added movement to it such as holding my stomach. Another thing I say is, “And 8 year old with adventure in their blood”, This is something that excites my character so I had to say it in an excited manner. Something I believe I could have worked on to improve our performance even more was to work on better yoga poses. Me and my yoga friends tried to come up with a few moves to do in sink but I believe we could have done better. We could have put a little more time and effort at the end of a college day, to stay back as a group and work on it. Now that we have done the performance in the York theatre we have to wait to see if we have won, and get the chance to perform in the National theatre! During this time I can work on the things which I believe could make it look even better such as the moves.
