Week Seventeen

Today is our first day back after we preformed Charlie and the chocolate factory. We began working on our next show straight away. This show is called 'Remote', and its for the connections. This show is very different than the other two that we have done. Unlike the others its a lot more serious and aimed for an older audience, whereas the other shows that we have done is aimed more towards children. In this show there are only 7 characters, and we can only have one cast, so its going to be very difficult. In this show there are also random lines in between the characters lines (The people who don't get a main role will be saying these lines). You could say that these lines are like small narrations for the other characters but also completely not. We haven't fully decided what these lines are going to be yet. Since we haven't fully figured that out, today we got into groups and tried to decide what to do with those lines for the first 10 pages. I came up with an idea of these lines to be like the thoughts and actions of the characters. Whilst id be saying these lines id also be walking around the stage saying it to the audience but also look at the character depending on the line. A friend of mine in the group came up with an idea that these lines would be said by people in a library. These people would be reading a book to some children that are in the library. So we decided to mix our ideas. Sometimes the children would say a line as if there trying to figure out whats going to happen next. As the librarians say these lines the main characters would be playing it out. We decided that when the story becomes more interesting the librarians would bring the children along to the main characters as they begin to start acting. If there are no lines they would just sit there mesmerised as if there thoughts from reading the book is coming to life.

In today's class we had to decide what characters we wanted to audition for. If we didn't want to be a main character, and just act as one of the random lines. I would really like to be a main character so I went through the script briskly and decided that I want to audition for the roles of Desk and skin ( The writer didn't want to give the characters a normal name as she didn't want them to be judged by there name). I personally don't actually really like this show, but I'm sure that when we figure out everything it will come along and be a lot better. I want to audition for Desk because I think that they are quite sweet, and I believe that they would be the best character that I could play. I also want to audition for Skin because she is a character that I have never played before, and is very much out of my comfort zone. Today we have also found out that we are going to be auditioning by self tape. We got taught how to take a good self tape:

-Good lighting e.g. natural lighting or use an LID light such as a ring light

-Clear and natural background e.g. White, black, cream. No bright colours such as pink

-Nothing behind you in the portrait

-The camera should be at eye level

-There should be a little bit of space between where your head is and to where the camera ends

After deciding who I'm going to audition for I found what dialogue I'm going to be using for the self tape
