Charlie and the chocolate factory characters
Charlie Bucket
The key characteristics of Charlie Bucket:
-Kind
-Caring
-Honest
-Sharing
-Hard working
-Sweet
-Friendly
-Generous
-Thoughtful
How I presented these characteristics:
To ensure that I brought all these characteristics to life when preforming as Charlie Bucket, I made sure to speak softly to every character. Every time something exciting happened to him, I'd bounce around and sway like a young innocent child. Every time someone rude like Veruca and Violet would say something that's arrogant, I'd pull a surprised and worried face. People would usually pull a horrified and disgusted face for their behaviour, but Charlie would never judge someone harshly. I'd always have a smile on my face because of how exciting everything is for him. Hes also very kind, so I always ensure to smile at everyone. One thing I did to show how generous Charlie is, was that I always walked behind everyone and made sure that I was last to everything.
Personal development:
Vocal changes- Charlie Bucket is sweet and timid, so I put a soft and low voice on. This made it a lot easier to act younger and innocent
Body language- To make me seem younger I always acted excited. I did this by always swaying around and holding my hands together.
Facial expressions- In show acting facial expressions are always enlarged and over the top (less natural). Charlies main facial expression is usually a really goofy and excited smile. But when scary things happen such as when Augustus Gloop goes up the pipe, I'd make sure to look terrified and shocked to the core. I would make sure to look shocked in a worried way tho, as Charlie is caring and wants everyone to be okay.
My costume for Charlie Bucket was: Black boots, black tights, a brown/pink dress, a white turtle neck and a black scarf.
I wanted Charlie to look young and cute, but also show that her family cant exactly afford the best cloths.
The makeup artist's put my hair into two braids. This really helped to complete the young and innocent look. The makeup was nice an natural. They put a lot of blush on my cheeks and nose so that I looked cold. They put thick eyeliner on my eyelids that didn't flick out so that my eyes looked bigger. Since its theatre makeup, its a lot more dramatic since the audience is pretty far away. This means that they put A LOT of contour on. This helped to make my face to look more like a shape of a child. It also helps to make the face look skinnier and since Charlie doesn't really eat, it helped a lot.
The first line and the last line for my character is very different. The first line is sad as hes saying how his dream of winning the golden ticket will never come true, whereas the last line hes thanking Willy Wonka for giving him the chocolate factory. I ensured to put a lot of facial expressions, body language and change my tone of voice for both, to show the audience how he is feeling.
The staging:
As I was playing Charlie Bucket I was usually always behind everyone else as he always puts others before himself.
