Week Thirteen

Today we were in a new class, which we will be using until our next show because our usual room is taken. Its a bit smaller which makes it a little harder to rehearse. Today we went through scenes 5 and 6. Scene five is when Willy Wonka shows all the parents and children the chocolate room (where the chocolate river is). In this scene Augustus Gloop falls into the river and gets sucked up into the tube. This scene includes both fantasy and comedy which makes it more intriguing to watch. This is one of my favourites scenes mostly because of Mrs Gloops reaction. Scene six is when we all go on the purple boat. In this scene Willy Wonka goes a tad bit crazy which scares some of the children and parents. I wasn't sure what Charlies reaction would be so I had a look at the original 1971 film. In the film when Wonka begins singing Charlie looks a little confused, but then he begins to smile. I believe that hes not really worried because he really likes Willy Wonka and has his fate in him. The next time I rehearse this scene I will make sure to show facial expressions that will allow the audience to understand that i'm not afraid of Wonka but actually really enjoy every part of the tour. The last hour of our lesson we worked on Veruca's salt, Umpa Lumpa chant and dance. The dance that we have choreographed consists of very slow moves. It looks a tad bit like a ball room dance. We thought that it would fit because Veruca's a "rich kid" who would only dance in the most "expensive" way. The chant is also quite slow but it goes well with the music. This is the song: Ballroom music- Winter Waltz . We also ended up cutting out about 6 lines of the chant/song so that it would fit well with the music. We need to practice a lot more for all the Umpa Lumpa's. This means that we need to work on the dances and make sure that we can all do it on time and neatly, we also need to work on the chant. I think that we just need to learn the lines because we have the beat for nearly every one done.

Hello, today we worked on the Umpa Lumpa Veruca dance again. We ended up finishing it. I think that its my favourite dance out of all the other Umpa Lumpa dances. I personally think that it fits very well with the chant and Veruca herself. Some of the dance consists of dancing with a partner. This dance is called the Waltz dance. This is what The waltz dance looks like. After practising the dance making sure that everyone understands how to do it and making sure that we can all do it in the same paste, we began working on scene 2 and 3 (the bucket scenes were they are introduced and when Charlie wins the golden ticket). I got one feedback. In scene three I'm telling my family the story of how I won the golden ticket and they keep interrupting me, so when they do Charlie for example says, "No no no no, I ate the candy, there was no golden ticket...". When I say the "No no no no bit I usually say it sadly but my feedback was to say it more like I'm happy and excited to tell them the story. So the next time I rehearse this scene I will make sure that I act really excited to the point that I cant hold it in. After rehearsing those scenes for a while we had tutorial which we learnt about prevent and then we did a Christmas quiz.

Today we all did a lot. We went through nearly all the scenes. From scene 8 to the second last. These scenes include, violet turning into a giant blueberry, Veruca getting attacked by the squirrels, getting into the glass elevator, then Mike getting turned into a tiny small person. In all these scenes I don't have too many lines so I'm going to be learning all of them this weekend. My favourite scene is the elevator scene. This is because part of it will be filmed. I think that is going to look really cool because when we go "up" in the elevator we will go back stage then a recording of us will pop up. This will be the one we filmed. This will include the part where Willy Wonka is telling us about the fact the there's another elevator that could be heading straight for us. This scene will be very hectic but I believe that it will look amazing. In these scenes we all have to use a lot of facial expressions since there's a lot going on but not much dialogue. It took a while to go through all the scenes since we had to work on where we are going to set it out and also because we had to add on to our facial expressions because they are really important.

today me and my class all got to go see elf, which was preformed by the musical theatre course. It was amazing. Everything was spot on, and I really enjoyed it. There facial expressions, dancing, acting, singing ect was so good you could tell that they all put a lot of hard work into it. I would love to see it again, because of how much I enjoyed it! Afterwords me and my group started recording some scenes of our Christmas, John Lewis advert. We recorded scenes 2 and 3.
I really enjoyed filming these scenes. I haven't been able to do much camera work so this was different and something I definitely wont to work with more. We were able to get most of it recorded in one shot. we will be recording the rest of it on Monday the 13th of December 2021.
